DC's "Stop Modern Slavery" Walk – National Mall – 10.22.11
In conjunction with our annual "Week Without Violence", this past Saturday the YWCA National Capital Area participated in the DC Stop Modern Slavery Walk that was held at the National Mall. Hundreds of walkers participated in the 5k walk around the Tidal Basin. Several guest speakers and other local organizations attended. We were able to meet some great people and listen to a great performance by a band called "Tim Be Told."
The DC Stop Modern Slavery Walk is the largest human trafficking awareness event in DC history. It is a united effort to bring together different elements of the abolitionist movement (non-profit organizations, local authorities, legislators, businesses, entertainers, the media, local businesses and the community) to raise awareness and combat modern slavery.
