2019 Annual Luncheon & Leadership Awards
On May 15, 2019, we held our 2019 “Empowering Every Woman” Luncheon and Leadership Awards at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C. We had the pleasure of honoring four women who exemplify our mission of eliminating racism and empowering women, including Maria Gomez, CEOof Mary’s Center; Judi Moore Latta, a professor of Media, Journalism and Film at Howard University, Delegate Jheanelle Wilkins of the Maryland House of Delegates and Kenyatta Brunson, director of programs at N Street Village. A special thank you to each of these empowering women and for the inspiring work that they do.
In addition, we awarded the Evelyn D. Sommers Memorial Scholarship to Mi’Suan Hollins, a graduating senior at Eastern High School. She has been an honor roll student throughout her high school career. In addition to her outstanding academics, Mi’Suan works, sometimes two jobs, to support her family. This fall Mi’Suan will be attending Northern Virginia Community College.
We also want to thank this year’s luncheon sponsors including Centene Corporation; Pepco; Volkswagen Group of America; YWCA NCA Board of Directors Alumni; Bank of America, Chick-Fil-A Capital Centre Steeplecase, Carefirst Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Carole Burnett, Katherine LaVelle, Teresa & Daniel Schwartz, Wiley Rein LLP; Sheppard Mullin; AmeriHealth Caritas, Barnes and Thornburg LLP, and Strategies That Strengthen Families & Communities, Inc. In addition, we recognize table sponsors Kathy Bradley Wells, Marilyn Massey Ball, Karen Williamson, N Street Village, Kelly Benefit Strategies, Crowell & Moring LLP, and The Girlfriends Inc.
We could not do this important work without the generous contributions of our sponsors and friends. We’re still closing out the final tally – but so close to our yearly fundraising goals! If you were unable to join us, you can still help us hit the target! Make your gift today.
