Each year during the third week of October, the YWCA National Capital Area joins over 300 YWCAs across the United States
and around the world in sponsoring activities, programs and public events to promote alternatives to violence in our society.
The YWCA Week Without Violence is a national call for people to live for one week without perpetrating, participating in,
observing, or experiencing violence. Individuals will be challenged to take responsibility for their actions. The
international campaign focuses attention on practical and sustainable alternatives to violence and bringing to life a
vision of a safer, healthier community.
During the YWCA Week Without Violence, the YWCA National Capital Area will hold two self-defense classes and display
children's art - showing how they deal with feelings of anger. If you would like to attend a self-defense class, please
contact jnixon@ywcanca.org.
