"I enjoyed everything about summer camp!"
Keon, 10-year old Camp YWCA participant
The YWCA provides summer camp programming to more than 150 young people every summer at our Gallery Place Fitness and Aquatics Center in downtown Washington, DC. Camp YWCA is a four session, two-weeks-per-session camp dedicated to enriching the lives of children from the ages of 5 to 12 years old in a safe and fun setting. Each session, which fills quickly, has scholarship spaces available for those who would otherwise be unable to attend.
Many campers come back year after year because of the broad range of physical and creative activities including arts and crafts, swimming, karate classes, field trips, computer exploration and much more.
Camp YWCA is a place where kids mature socially, emotionally, intellectually, morally and physically. Instead of spending the summer in front of a TV and being left alone for more than 8-hours a day while their parents are at work, youth have a place to interact with other young people and to grow and learn.
Summer camp is one of the few institutions where young people can experience and satisfy their need for physical activity, creative expression and true participation in a community environment. Most schools don't satisfy all these needs. Kids who have had these kinds of camp experiences end up being healthier and have fewer problems in life.
If you would like to make it possible for children who otherwise wouldn't have the opportunity to attend summer camp, click here to make a contribution towards our Camp YWCA scholarship fund.
