YWCA Chocolate Chip Cookie Bake Off Attracts Celebrities in Media and Entertainment

Washington, DC, July 8, 2005 - The Mrs. Fields brand would be up against stiff competition had the YWCA National Capital Area (YWCA/NCA) continued its chocolate chip cookie tradition. Satisfied customers were many, among them former First Lady Barbara Bush and Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. With the demolition of the old YWCA headquarters came the end of on-site baking. The YWCA/NCA celebrates its centennial this year with a return to tradition. On Tuesday, July 12, 2005, the organization hosts a Centennial Chocolate Chip Cookie Bake off, at Stratford University, School of Culinary Arts, 2:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Among celebrity judges are news analyst, Cokie Roberts; political pundit, Mark Shields; and jazz musicians Davey Yarborough and Esther Williams.

The event takes on a reality TV type flavor as females with a passion for baking chocolate chip cookies compete for the coveted first place honor. The winning cookie becomes the official YWCA/NCA Centennial Chocolate Chip Cookie. Proceeds from limited edition sales support the organization's programs benefiting metropolitan area women and their families. Beyond contestant contributions, donated time from celebrities makes the event more than just about baking cookies but also about coming together to make a social difference.
