Thanks for Giving Thursday: Sweet Taste of Giving
YWCA thanks community for 100 years of support by giving away free chocolate chip cookies

Washington, DC, November 9, 2005 --- The YWCA National Capital Area holds Thanks for Giving Thursday, November 17th, noon - 1:00 p.m., another in a series of events in celebration of its centennial. Teaming with Bread & Chocolate Bakery, the organization will give away samples of its centennial chocolate chip cookie as a way to say thanks to the Washington mMetropolitan aArea for 100 years of support. "Thanks for Giving Thursday is a time of celebration, a time when weto let the community know how grateful we are," shares Orysia Stanchak, YWCA/NCA executive director. "As I reflect on the volunteers of all ages and backgrounds who donated time to our centennial events, I am reminded that ours is a legacy of countless women of selfless devotion and commitment to a vital causeeliminating racism and empowering women," she concludes.

Camila Bryce-Laporte, volunteer organizer of the YWCA/NCA historical archives exhibition, echoes Orysia's view. "As a volunteer, I was part of a community of women who each saw theYWCA/NCA as a critical community resource. I was able to recruit teenage girls to help uncover historical records. This experience gave them much to think about in terms of how they could beginan opportunity to write their own legacies of involvement with this great organization," she concludes.
