WLP
Workplace Literacy Program (WLP) Overview

The Workforce Literacy Program (WLP) prepares women who have been chronically unemployed with basic skills to enter the job market. Additionally, participants are given opportunities to take classroom administered, practice Pre-GED tests. Because our target population faces a multitude of barriers in entering the workplace we also make referrals to appropriate social service agencies.
What is WLP?
WLP is a 6 week program that helps women become employable and find jobs. WLP participants receive:
- Math instruction including GED preparation
- Computer instruction including: preparing resumes and cover letters as well as performing internet job searches
- Language Arts instruction including reading comprehension and writing for resumes and cover letters
- Workplace Literacy including interview techniques, proper conduct in the workplace , and dressing for success
WLP helps all participants become more involved in their communities by showing them how to register to vote, apply for library cards, and apply for driver's licenses and/or learner's permits.
Who can participate in WLP?
WLP is available to women living in the Metro Washington DC area. If you are interested in participating in WLP please fill out a WLP participant recruitment form or contact Gail Brown at (202) 626-0700 x 29/39.
