- YWCA Luncheon
The YWCA National Capital Area would like to thank the Gold, Silver and Bronze Luncheon sponsors benefiting the Washington Area Women in the Trades (WAWIT) program.
- Help the Homeless Walkathon
Since 2000, the YWCA National Capital Area has participated in the Help the Homeless Walkathon to raise awareness and
financial support for area nonprofits providing homeless services and preventing homelessness. The YWCA designates its
Walkathon contributions to its Washington Area Women in the Trades (WAWIT) program. The YWCA WAWIT program prevents homelessness by
providing people with an opportunity to make a living wage.
- Adopt-A-Family
Every year the YWCA partners with area businesses and individuals to fulfill the holiday wishes of families served
by the YWCA. In 2004, more than 35 families were adopted. If you would like to sponsor a family,
please complete our online form.
- Annual Meeting - November 7, 2007, 6 - 8 PM
It is that time of year where we look back at our successes. We recognize and celebrate our volunteers, new board members and programs.
Please join us as we celebrate another successful year!
Light refreshments will be served!
- Week Without Violence - October 15 - 19, 2007
Day after day women of all ages, income levels and race-ethnicities are victims of violent acts including rape, sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking. YWCA invites you to attend and activity to raise awareness and take action to end violence in our community.
Please participate in the 12th annual YWCA Week Without Violence activities such as self-defense classes, awareness workshops and guest speaker presentations.

- YWCA Week Wellness - April 23-27, 2007
The YWCA National Capital Area is offering a week of wellness activities that are open to the public:
Tuesday April 24th

NUTRITION WORKSHOP
Carbs are bad; no, fat is bad; sugar is to blame. What’s a person to believe? In this session we will put common nutritional myths to rest and give you the information you need to make smart food choices for you and your family.
Wednesday April 25th

OSTEOPOROSIS WORKSHOP
A lecture by the National Osteoporosis Foundation covering the following topics:
• Osteoporosis - what it is, what causes it and how to prevent or treat it.
• NOF's 5 Steps to Bone Health
• Preventing falls and fractures.

- YWCA Week Without Violence - Oct. 16 - 22, 2006
The YWCA National Capital Area has been participating in the YWCA Week Without Violence for severals years along with many
other YWCAs around the world. Week Without Violence is an annual national campaign to stop all forms of violence.
Throughout the week, activities focus on raising awarness, promoting attitude change, and enabling individuals and
organizations to begin positive action towards ending violence in their communities. In 2006 the YWCA National Capital Area
will hold two self-defense classes and display children's art - showing how they deal with feelings of anger - during YWCA
Week Without Violence.
- 2006 Annual Meeting - Nov. 8, 2006; 6-8pm
The YWCA National Capital Area will hold its annual meeting on November 8th, stating at 6:00 pm, in the lobby of the YWCA
headquarters on 9th and G streets, NW. Click here for further details.

- Centennial Celebration
The YWCA National Capital Area is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year and several events will take place to
highlight its history, the women involved in its success, and what we hope to accomplish in the future.
- YWCA Girls Sports EXPO
On April 15, 2004, we held our first annual YWCA Girls Sports EXPO to encourage girls to get out there and get in the game.
More than 1,000 area residents attended the full-day event with sports clinics ranging from basketball to skateboarding and
speakers such as Olympic gymnast Dominique Dawes. We put together a video so you could see
the fun and excitement of the day for yourself.
